FORT HALL — U.S. Congressman Mike Simpson and members of his staff toured the Fort Hall Fire Station on August 4.
They met with Fort Hall Fire Chief Eric King and staff to learn how recent investments are strengthening emergency services for the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes.

During the tour, Chief King discussed the department’s progress in recruiting and retaining firefighters since the opening of the new fire station. He said competitive wages, modern equipment, expanded training opportunities, and a state-of-the-art facility have helped attract more qualified applicants. The department recently experienced its largest firefighter recruitment effort in years, with more than 20 applicants competing for three open positions.
He also explained how the new station has improved day-to-day operations and emergency preparedness. Unlike the former station, which had limited space for apparatus and equipment, the new facility provides adequate room for fire engines, training, and personnel, allowing firefighters to respond more efficiently to emergencies.
Chief King emphasized the importance of retaining experienced firefighters so they can advance into driver, engineer, and officer positions while continuing to strengthen the department’s capabilities.

The tour also highlighted the Fort Hall Fire Department’s strong partnerships with neighboring fire agencies through mutual aid agreements. Those relationships, combined with increased training, have enhanced regional emergency response and allowed firefighters to work seamlessly alongside other departments during large wildland fires and other incidents.
The visit gave Congressman Simpson’s team an opportunity to learn more about the department’s operations and the positive impact the new fire station is having on public safety for the Shoshone-Bannock community.
