Sho-Ban News staff wins four IJA 2025 Indigenous Media Awards

FORT HALL — Sho-Ban News staff Jeremy Shay and Lori Edmo won two Indigenous Journalists Association Division One media awards each in the annual contest.

Shay won first place for his photo of Dallon Yokoyama’s horse rearing while he hangs on during the Shoshone-Bannock Festival Indian Relay races. He also won second place for another Indian Relay photo of the Coby Team while rider EJ Enos goes out on an exchange.

Lori Edmo won first place for Best Environmental Coverage for the stories “Enemy grass overtakes camas” and “Phosphate mining impacts on Fort Hall Rez.” In addition, Edmo won second place for Best Elder Coverage/AARP Elder Coverage Award for “Stories told, gifts given at Shoshonean Reunion Comanche sunrise gathering.”

IJA’s annual competition recognizes excellence in reporting by Indigenous and non-Indigenous journalists across Turtle Island. The awards will be presented August 13 to 15 at the Indigenous Media Conference in Albuquerque, N.M.
