CHUBBUCK — Carrying the Message group hosted a candlelight vigil on Tuesday, May 5, despite the wind, in recognition of Murdered and Missing Persons Awareness Day at the corner of New Day Parkway and Hiline Road in Chubbuck where Nelson Racehorse sang a prayer song and Paul Frank gave a prayer.

Participants holding signs recited, “Say their name, no justice, no peace, silent no more.”

Susan Pevo holds signs of her son Austin Pevo.

Organizer and group leader of the MMIP of Fort Hall, Willeena George said, “The reason behind this is to make awareness for the missing and murdered today and also for the month of May.”

Paul Smith said the event was, “To honor the missing and the murdered and those still seeking justice” “It’s a lot of work to carry that hurt and pain without any kind of closure or peace.”

The event is conducted at the location because that is where the late Samantha Bear body was found. She was allegedly murdered but the killer has never been found.
